Hey Readers!
Since I was young, books have always been my go-to escape from the world. As I’ve grown up though, I realized that books actually have a unique way of connecting you more with the world, rather than being an escape. As I’ve entered my 20s, I’ve gone through some life-changing experiences, from living on my own, to friendships and relationships, to my mental health. I lean on books as a source of peace and comfort. In this post, I’ve included some of my favourite books that have helped me deal with my stress, build my strength, and change my mindset. I know life can get hectic, but it is SO important to take some time out of your day to prioritize yourself and your well-being. Taking thirty minutes out of your day to read can benefit you both physically and mentally. I highly recommend reading these especially if you’re going through something in your life, but they’re amazing reads even if you aren’t. Not only will they help with your peace of mind, but they will also help remind you of your worth and feel empowered. Enjoy!

This book is a compilation of various poems exploring topics such as self-worth, healthy ways of thinking, and finding yourself. This book was recommended to me by a friend when I was going through a rough patch, and let me tell you, it has easily become one of my favourites in my collection! This book is ideal for people who are constantly on the go because each poem is less than a page long, making it easy to start and stop whenever you please. I would recommend putting sticky notes on the poems that resonate with you the most so you can go back and re-read them when you feel the need.

This book is also poetry style, covering themes such as self-growth and being true to who you are. It is more geared towards women, however, men can definitely resonate with the messages in the poems if they’re able to look past the illustrations. I love this book because it talks about the value of allowing yourself to feel your emotions, but not allowing your emotions to consume you and prevent you from moving forward. It is another great read for those on the go.

So I came across this book when I was going through a really bad break-up. I was told by the person selling me the book that it would help me find my strength again and remind me of the “bawse” that I am. Let me tell you – she was right. This book aims at helping people realize their worth and potential and talks about tips and tricks at being successful in life. The main reason why I love this book is because Superwoman found a way to communicate serious topics in a hilarious and engaging way. It’s one of those books that you never want to put down.

This book is also at the top of my list along with Mind Platter. I bought this book because I recognized some negative habits and ways of thinking within myself, and I wanted some guidance on how to change them. Naturally, my first instinct was to find a book. This book truly helped me recognize some of my destructive ways of thinking and changed my perspective on important topics. Some of the main topics in this book are controlling your emotions, accepting things you cannot change, exuding positivity, and getting rid of anger and jealousy. If you’re trying to change your habitual ways of thinking, this is definitely a book for you. Changing the way you think and how you approach life is one of the most difficult and energy demanding things to do. Recognizing that you have habits within yourself that need to change is a form of self-awareness, and changing them not only benefits you but also those around you. When you think more clearly, spread more love, and drop the negativity, all aspects of your life improve drastically.

This book is by the same author as Mind Platter. Although it is also a poetry book, there is a shift in the themes of the poems. This book focuses more on heartbreak, breaks ups, and relationships. It is also an amazing read and a lot of these poems really hit home for me. It serves as a valuable reminder of the importance of loving and valuing yourself despite the changing relationships in your life. If you’re going through a breakup or are unhappy in your relationship, I would highly recommend this read.

Lastly, this book talks about self-love but takes a more realistic approach. The author finds a way to be blunt, but in a humorous way. It explores ways to build your inner strength so you minimize your dependencies on other people. This is SO important, especially being in your 20s. Friendships and relationships can come and go so easily during this time of our lives, so having a strong relationship with yourself is very important.
So, we’ve come to the end of my first post! Even if you don’t go buy these books, I hope you take away some of the important themes I discussed. The importance of having an open mind to retain and learn new information. The importance of encouraging yourself to change bad habits. The importance of loving yourself wholeheartedly so you don’t depend on anyone else for that love. These books have helped me through some of my most challenging experiences of my 20s thus far, and hopefully, they will help some of you as well.
Cheers to reading more books, loving ourselves more, and continuing to learn new things.
